Silicon Automation Systems (SAS)

SAS is one of the fastest growing IT companies in India. They work on a wide range of technology fields, ranging from EDA (Electronic Design & Automation) to Telecommunications to Multimedia. I've been working in the Network Management Solutions Group since I joined them in October 1998. My group specializes in Network Management Tools for OAM&P.

SAS has several groups which focus on a particular area. If you want to get into hardcore protocol designing, then there are groups which are working on WAP, GSM and GPRS amongst others.

The MCG Group (Multimedia Codecs Group) focuses on developing codecs for audio/video. A group is currently working on MPEG-4.

The EDA group works on ASIC design and VLSI. There are others groups like Broadband Access Technologies, CDMA, GPRS, 3G Wireless, etc.

Well, I think that's enough for an overview of the various groups in SAS!

The work environment is great. Pay is good. SAS follows the flexi-time system. SAS is currently spread over 5 buildings in Indiranagar.

SAS does not focus on any one development platform. Windows 9x/NT, HP-UX, Linux and Sun Solaris are the major operating systems being used. As far as languages are concerned, we use C, C++, VC++, Java and many more....

Since SAS is a small and fast growing company, it is ideal for any fresher. **BUT**, if you plan to join SAS and then prepare for GRE/TOEFL/GMAT, it is not the company for you. Even though SAS follows the flexi-time system, you wont get time to do any other thing, that's a guarantee.

As far as training is concerned, there are various courses held on-site and off-site and these are held very regularly. I've been working for the last 6 months in SAS and there might have been close to 20 odd courses held so far! Some of them were on Java, COM/DCOM, Wireless Communications, Real Time Operation Systems, ISO Certification, TMN, UML, Telecom Basics, etc.

Others from the CSE'98 batch working in SAS are Navneet Malpani and Vishruth Madhav (both in the 3G Wireless Group) and Arvinda T.S. (in the EDA group).
